What stories does this kids' Bible quiz cover?
The 12 questions come from the stories young children usually hear first: God making the heavens and the earth, Noah and the ark, David the shepherd boy who played the harp, Jonah and the great fish, and a few moments from the life of Jesus, such as the storm on the lake, the boy with the loaves and fish, the story of the lost sheep, and Jesus welcoming little children.
Each question asks about one simple, concrete detail from the text: an animal, a number, a place or an object. There are no trick questions, and the stories are kept gentle, with no frightening details.
How do you play this quiz with preschoolers?
Read the question out loud, then read the four answers slowly. Very young children can point or call out an answer; older children can take turns tapping the screen. After each answer, read the short explanation and the verse together, so the quiz becomes a mini story time rather than a test.
In a Sunday school class or a VBS group, split the children into two teams and let each team talk before answering. Praise good listening and remembering, not speed. If a question is too hard, go back to the story first: read about Noah's ark, Jonah and the big fish or David and Goliath, then try again.
What is a good tip for helping kids remember Bible stories?
Children remember stories through pictures and actions. Before the quiz, act out one story together: build an ark out of cushions, walk two by two like the animals going into the ark, or sit very still like the calm sea after Jesus spoke to the storm. Then ask the matching question. When a child can connect a detail to something they did, the answer sticks much longer than a fact they only heard once.
